Brush
Research Manufacturing (BRM) is best-known for its Flex-Hone® tool, NamPower
family of nylon
abrasive brushes, and high-quality diesel and
automotive brushes. Since 1958, our American-owned company has been solving
difficult surface finishing challenges with brush technology. But did you know
that BRM’s line of industrial brushes includes many different types of nylon
abrasive brushes, including tube brushes? How can
you tell if tube brush technology is right for your application?
What are Tube Brushes?
Tube
brushes are twisted-in-wire filament brushes that mount in handheld power
tools, in CNC machining centers as well as used by hand. Versatile, reliable,
and available for a range of bore sizes, these industrial brushes are made with
various filament materials ranging from abrasive-filled nylon to stainless
steel, carbon steel, nylon, brass and even natural bristle to provide superior
cutting and cleaning action. In addition to light deburring, applications for BRM
tube brushes include internal hole-cleaning, the removal of small surface
imperfections, surface preparation, micro-burr removal, and edge blending.
Nylon Abrasive Filaments
Safe
and non-reactive, BRM tube brushes offer an excellent alternative to
traditional steel filament brushes. Our twisted-in-wire abrasive nylon
brushes are available in three different styles or series, and in various
abrasive types and grits. When ordering tube brushes, specify the brush
diameter, stem diameter, and overall length (OAL) as well as the hole diameter
or bore size. Choices for abrasive and grit vary by tube brush type, but generally
include aluminum oxide (AO) and silicon carbide (SC).
Miniature Deburring Tools for Through
Holes
BRM Series 81AY tube
brushes are miniature brush tools for deburring through holes (thru holes),
openings that are drilled, milled or otherwise machined to penetrate a
substrate completely. Bore sizes for Series 81AY tube brushes range from
0.032-in. to 0.50-in. and from 1-mm to 6.5 mm. In addition to 500 AO and 600 AO
miniature deburring tools, buyers can choose mini tube brushes that use diamond
or silicate (SIL) abrasives. With SC and AO brush tools, grit choices range
from 80 to 600.
Standard Duty Deburring Tools for
Blind Holes and Bottom Ends
BRM Series 85AY tube
brushes are standard-duty deburring tools for bottom ends and blind holes,
openings that are drilled, milled or otherwise machined, but that do not
penetrate a substrate completely. Bore sizes for Series 85AY brush tools range
from 0.125-in. to 0.937-in. In addition to 320, 500, and 600 AO stocked abrasives,
Series 85AY tube brushes are available in diamond. With AO and SC brushing
tools, choices range from 80 to 600 grit.
Heavy Duty Deburring Tools for Edge
Blending and Metal Finishing
BRM Series 90AY tube
brushes are heavy-duty deburring tools that are made with a galvanized
steel stem wire and a rigid double stem / double spiral design. Bore sizes for these brushing tools range
from 0.750-in. to 3.500-in. Stocked abrasives include 320 AO and 530 AO, but
other AO nylon filaments are available by special order. Tube brush users can
also request products that use SC or SIL abrasives.
