Flex-Hone® tools
from Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM) impart the optimum surface finish to
any type or size cylinder. With their abrasive globules and soft cutting action,
BRM cylinder hones
produce a plateau finish that promotes lubrication and reduces wear. By
removing peaks produced by prior honing operations, plateau finishing creates a
cross-hatched surface with oil-retaining grooves or valleys.
The
Flex-Hone® tool’s low-temperature, low-pressure abrading process also provides
a final finish
that’s free of cut, torn, folded, or jagged metal. If left in-place, metal
burrs can cause part misalignments and interfere with the performance of
machined components. Though not a heavy-duty material removal tool, the
Flex-Hone® performs deburring
and surface finishing at the same time.
Cylinder Honing Tools for Versatile
Surface Finishing
From
marine engines to musical instruments, flexible honing tools have been used to
solve a variety of surface finishing challenges. As Flex-Hone® for
Firearms users know, the cylinder honing tool’s versatility makes it the
right choice for maintaining slides, chambers, magazine tubes, and smooth bore
barrels. Today, Flex-Hone® tools are available for shotguns, rifles, revolvers,
pistols, and paintball guns.
Gun
owners and gunsmiths also prefer flexible honing tools because of their
ease-of-use. For example, by mounting a Flex-Hone® for Firearms tool in the
chuck of an electric hand drill and applying a high-quality honing fluid
(preferably Flex-Hone® oil),
professionals and hobbyists alike can solve problems such as sticking and
scarring. Gun manufactures can automate
surface finishing by mounting Flex-Hone® tools in machining centers.
Brush Tool Storage and Identification
Recently,
Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM) unveiled new Flex-Hone® for Firearms
packaging that makes flexible
hones as easy-to-find as they are to use. Instead of offering gun tools in
disposable plastic bags, BRM now provides them in reusable tubes. Users who store
Flex-Hone® for Firearms tools in the original packaging can now simply read the
label for information such as part number and description.
As
with other types of BRM flexible honing tools, the Flex-Hone® for Firearms is also
color-coded. For
example, the color on the tip of the gun hone indicates the grit type. The
color marked on the stem of the brush tool indicates the abrasive type. Users
can refer to this color coding and reference the Flex-Hone®
Resource Guide, and they can also identify BRM gun tools based on the
reusable packaging.
Feedback from Firearms Owners
So
far, the feedback from firearms owners has been extremely positive. In a recent
Facebook post about BRM’s
new Flex-Hone® for Firearms packaging, one user called the reusable tubes
“brilliant”. Another described them as “clean, bold, and eye-catching.” A third
user described the new packaging as “matching the quality
of the product – fantastic!”
What
do you think of the new Flex-Hone® for Firearms packaging? Will you keep your
BRM gun tools in these reusable tubes so that your cylinder hones are easier to
identify and store? Please let us know by commenting on this blog entry. Thank
you!
