BRM Meets Metalworking and Manufacturing Experts at EMO 2013

EMO 2013, the world’s premiere event for metalworking technology, hosted 2100 exhibitors from 43 countries and attracted 145,000 visitors from 100 nations. From September 16 to 21, 2013, Hannover, Germany was home to “Intelligence in Production”, the theme for this year’s international trade fair . “Across the board, visitor feedback is topping the scales,” EMO General Commissioner Carl Martin Weckler told Industrial Distribution magazine.

According to a tradeshow survey, half of all EMO Hannover visitors were managers with purchasing authority. These attendees also reported that their main reason for attending EMO was a desire to expand and modernize their machinery. “It was a great show”, said Michael Miller, VP of Global Sales for Brush Research Manufacturing (BRM). Visitors to the BRM booth were especially impressed by how Flex-Hone® and NamPower technologies offer automated surface finishing and deburring at the same time.

Cylinder Hones for Inner Diameter (ID) Surface Finishing
Manual deburring is fine for one-off parts, but manufacturers can save time and money by using automated tooling with production runs. As this Flex-Hone® video shows, flexible honing tools mount in machine centers and can be used with lathes, mills, drill presses, and other production equipment. For cylinder surface finishing, flexible hones are the standard against which all other tools are compared. Flex-Hone® applications include cross-hole deburring, bore finishing and blending, and port radiusing.

Self-centering, self-aligning to the bore, and self-compensating for wear, BRM cylinder honing tools follow existing bore geometry and will not affect size, ovality, or concentricity. To gently remove cut, torn, and folded metal from cylinder walls, ball hones feature abrasive globules and use a low-pressure, low-temperature abrading process. The plateau finish that the Flex-Hone® tool imparts also optimizes lubrication by creating a series of uniformly-spaced, oil-retaining grooves.

Nylon Abrasive Brushes for Outer Diameter (OD) Surface Finishing
BRM also showcased its NamPower family of brush tools at EMO Hannover 2013. Easily integrated into automated machinery, CNC machine centers, transfer lines, and robotic cells, NamPower nylon abrasive brushes are ideal for outer diameter (ID) surface finishing and deburring. By wiping and filing across part surfaces, the abrasive nylon filaments on these brush tools conform to part contours. As this NamPower video explains, applications include deburring, surface finishing, parts cleaning, and edge radiusing.

NamPower brush tools include abrasive disc brushes, abrasive hex-drive tools, composite hub wheel brushes, and lightweight tool holders. NamPower abrasive disc brushes come in two styles for light-to-moderate and heavy-duty burr removal. Composite hub wheel brushes offer an alternative to wire wheels and non-woven abrasive brushes. Abrasive hex-drive tools turn in both directions for complete 360° surface finishing. Lightweight NamPower tool holders feature a unique coolant dispersal system.

BRM Distributor and Partners
In addition to meeting with metalworkers and manufacturers, BRM’s Mike Miller also conferred with many of the California company’s distributors, including Brain Products from Sweeden, Van Nunen from the Netherlands, Tecnimetal and Vogel from Italy, Baumgartner and Brutsch Ruegger from Switzerland, Suleyman Gormus from Turkey, Jakov Frederick from Russia, and Asia Kendy from Thailand.

“We wish to give a special thanks”, Miller added, “to Klaus Krupp, Jurger Koehler, and Siegfried Grunert of WKD, our distributor in Germany and our partner at this exhibit.  This would not have been possible without them.”
