Special Flex Hones for Motorcycle Shock Bodies

Motocross Action Magazine recently posted an article on their site showing how "MX-Tech did their motocross homework and built a totally unique, speed-sensitive bottoming control system that works like a charm." The article goes into detail about the daunting task of designing the new generation of Honda CRF450s.

The main topic of this application specific editorial focuses on the CRF450 suspension. When it came time to evaluating the shocks, MX-Tech determined that they needed a "rebuild and revalving and a polished shock body to reduce stiction and friction." To address these issues, "MX-Tech uses a levigated aluminum polisher with a special ball hone (from Kashima) that polishes without removing the coating. " AKA, The Flex-Hone®.

The BRM Flex-Hone Tool comes in 8 different abrasive types and 11 different grit selections. Levigated Alumina Flex-Hones are produced using a special abrasive we typically use for several industrial applications. Easily identifiable by its white abrasive, these honing tools only comes in one grit: extra fine (approximately 1000-1200 grit).
